Because of the fire, the school chose as its motto, "Succisa Virescit" (cut down, it grows back stronger), borrowing from the often destroyed Abbey of Monte Cassino in Italy.

You should probably do a little bit of research before you assume you know what you're talking about.Stevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13003980869579537310noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17691136.post-67064769555044063352009-08-13T00:11:39.094-07:002009-08-13T00:11:39.094-07:00So honestly, I was with you all the way to the end...So honestly, I was with you all the way to the end... when you got to the point of co-ed dorms. I also think that the original intention of cutting away weakness in order to cultivate strength is also very profound. However, like any language, Latin is a language, and can say anything you want it to say...it gets your attention because it is in Latin. For good or bad (I don't have it anymore, but I used to have a Latin phrase that said "We must get rid of the designated hitter" in my signature. Not too profound (even if it is true).

Our first year Latin text, would say this, I believe,

Sue CHEES uh (hard S, not like Cheese)

VEHR es sit

in Latin, C before I (as in English is generally an S sound, so unless "cs" together make have their own little sound, this should be correct, and it is how they prounounced it on ESPN also.

With Latin, the pronunciations are very similar to Spanish and Italian.RPWhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16686240798146992394noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17691136.post-56344229799721941132007-06-03T16:55:00.000-07:002007-06-03T16:55:00.000-07:00I have to agree with your central theme that they ...I have to agree with your central theme that they were not being good boys when this all occurred, but in light of that, the slogan, Succisa virescit IS a profound (as is most Latin in my humble opinion) statement which strikes a chord deep within anyone persecuted, and then exonerated.

Do you happen to know the exact pronunciation? I have scoured the net, and cannot find a Latin "pronouncer" as I can for most of its contemporary languages.

Just figured you may know.

Sincerely.

Curious
Chicago, ILanonymoususerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02061762971137256935noreply@blogger.com
