As I was driving my six year old to her P.E. class, I was kind of daydreaming and not paying attention to the radio. About halfway through a song, my little angel said "I really like this song...its got a good beat and its fun to sing."
The lyrics:
I'm a joker
I'm a smoker
I'm a midnight toker
I get my lovin' on the run.....
At which point I supressed my urge to change the channel and reminded myself....its over her head. LOL. I hope she wasn't singing it at P.E. class.

ROFL! Sounds like me. When I was little I was singing the words to that song and many more. I think my parents also thought it was over my head.
ReplyDeleteIt was :)
I Love that song! So may memories, so little time! LOL Now to find the brussel sprouts! hehe
ReplyDeleteBTW, Where is the recipe? Jane linked to your blog for the carmelized brussel sprouts?
ReplyDeleteLOL. My favorite song when I was 3 or 4 was "Afternoon Delight" I think I was almost 30 before I realized what they were singing about.
ReplyDeleteStill, its wierder when its your own kids. My son used to love the song "There She Goes" and its wierd hearing an 11 year old kid sing about a heroin high.
ReplyDeleteBut I never told him...and didn't enlighten her on this one either :)
I'm so relieved to learn that mine are not the only children singing lyrics that they don't understand!
ReplyDeleteShortly after we moved here we were invited to a baptism dinner at a member's home. This is a huge family (7 kids who're all married and the baptism was one of the new grandbabies--all but one of the 7 families attend our church) and they were all gathered. Nathan was about 4 or 5 at the time and was playing. All of a sudden he starts singing, "You shook me all night long." A couple of the people heard him and started laughing, I thought, "oh dear," and "this is funny." This family has since learned Pastor's family is quite normal.....(depending on your definition of normal. hee heee hee).
ReplyDeleteWhen I was little I used to sing my favorite communion hymn while swinging on my swing set in the back yard. Nothing as nerve wracking for a Lutheran mom, surrounded by Baptist neighbors, who has a 5 yo singing "let us drink wine together on our knees" at the top of her lungs.
ReplyDeleteWe were listening to an "adult alternative" station the other day and on came a song: "I know what boys like, I know what men want, I make them want me....& etc.)
ReplyDeleteOoops! I hope she wasn't listening!
Of course, I have the same blasted thing with the "Christian" radio station... sad when you'd rather hope the drug & sax songs go over the kids' heads than to have to undo bad theology!
Thursday's child has to be the best post so far! Love it! :-)
ReplyDeletetoo funny - I was driving my six year old home from school this week and heard the exact same song on the radio. But I was paying attention and quickly found a new station.
ReplyDeletea friend in High School had a cat named Maurice, so we cracked ourselves up with the mental picture of him at 12:01 am inhaling aromatic smoke while everyone was asleep.
