A few days ago, a person on my twitter feed that I occasionally converse with posted a statement about blogging writers block. I commented that I hadn't been really able to write on my blog for about three years.
"Why do you think?" she asked.
I couldn't answer.
The answer came to me tonight as I was reading the epilogue for "Bitter is the New Black" by Jen Lancaster.
When going through the application process for becoming missionaries (yeah, I still think, "Really, ME? Are you kidding???) a friend of mine who grew up in the mission field told me she put on her reference:
"Lora would be a really good missionary because she has the ability to laugh at the absurd."
I realize now that while I definitely have the ability to laugh at the absurd, I'd forgotten to do so. Probably part of why the last few years have been very, very hard.
So here's to laughing at the absurd. I wonder if I can somehow get that dang cat wallpaper back that I had a few years ago. Just kidding. Maybe.
:)
I am a Lutheran pastor's wife as well and my family and I have been to Hades, but we are on our way back. It's very difficult to laugh at the absurd when it is causing everyone you love pain. I do miss your posts. I hope you enjoy the missionary work and change of pace. Blessings.
ReplyDeleteWow, seeing that first comment, it sounds like I wrote it. But that wasn't me.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have found that my "writer's block" isn't that I cannot write. It is instead the knowledge that, whatever I say, somebody will be offended. You end up being able to post only on "safe" subjects, such as recipes or photos of your kids.
Maybe that's not writer's block. Maybe that is "discretion is the better part of valor"?
Love ya, my friend. <3
ReplyDeleteE.C., I love you, too!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 2...yeah, I think that is pretty much right. Eventually, the safe subjects really aren't even worth the trouble and can be taken care of in 30 seconds on Facebook.
Discretion...yeah.
