How Blue?

I found this on Jane's blog....

You Are a Blue Crayon

Your world is colored in calm, understated, deep colors.
You are a loyal person, and the truest friend anyone could hope to find.
On the inside, you tend to be emotional and even a bit moody.
However, you know that people depend on you. So you put on a strong front.

Your color wheel opposite is orange. Orange people may be opinionated, but you feel they lack the depth to truly understand what they're saying.

Green. I'm a green crayon. Green happens to be my favourite colour. (yes that's australian spelling).
Hello, I've been wanting to say Hi for a while. I have just got my blog together.
I'm a bit awed by meeting someone this way. Just want to say I appreciate you writing.
Your desire to live alternate to the culture around you caught my eye.
My husband and I have found more of an alternate community amongst homeschoolers than we have in our church family. This is something very sad to me. Since bringing our children home, we have had a great big 'elephant' on the table with our church family, not understanding or uncomfortable with our choice? We aren't sure but it would be lovely to talk more with you. Bye.

Waah! I want to be blue! (I took this dumb test and it told me I was red, which doesn't fit me at all. I still can't figure it out.)

bundlejoycosysweet,

What a COOL name! Thank you so much for everything you had to say.

It is hard to feel judged for making a decision that you feel is right for your family. I don't know how things are in Australia, but homeschooling is such a mystery to so many people here...and they feel judged when you don't take the same direction that they do. Give it time.

It is a bizarre world. I often have felt more at home with friends who share ideals like homeschooling, eating well, attachment parenting, etc. than I have at church.

The reality of it though is that it isn't true...no matter how judged we may feel or scrutinized. These are the people we share the most elemental beliefs with...that we share the Body and Blood of Christ with...that we confess our faith with. That makes them much closer to us. That is probably why it hurts.

Pray. Pray for acceptance. Pray for dialogue (there, an Australian spelling for you)...and give it time. Just keep doing what you are doing, but don't talk about it unless you are getting genuinely curious questions rather than ones that you feel are looking for criticism. Nod and smile at the comments. Don't try to convert or defend. Over time, it will be clear you are not destroying your family and the good points will shine through. Let the elephant be an elephant.

Seek strengthening for your faith from likeminded people, and support for homeschooling from likeminded people.

If you'd like to talk more, I'd love it. rebelliouspastorswife@gmail.com

God bless.

Cheryl,

It is hardly scientific, is it? I've had several that get me wrong. Let's just say we are too complex for these things to really figure us out ;)

bundlejoycosysweet,

There also is a confessional Lutheran homeschoolers email list -- mostly Americans. I don't know if there is a counterpart for Australians...but you are welcome to join it if you are looking for support from a uniquely Lutheran perspective. We have classical to unschoolers, and everything inbetween. It says for our country, but I believe there are a couple of international people on the list. You are welcome to participate in the discussions (that usually have more to do with being a family than specifically homeschooling toics) or feel free to lurk. Often, we respond to what interests us and delete what doesn't, because it is a fairly active list.
