Sometimes I just sit aghast, wondering if people remember what having the Clintons in the White House was like?
Does anyone remember their renting out the Lincoln Bedroom; White Water; the Rose Law firm scandals? How all of these things, plus her husband's repeated sexual harassment and affairs brought lawsuits and disgrace to the Office of President? How about how the Clinton Administration trashed the White House before they left? How about all of those pardons that were signed for a price?
How about promises that we would be out of Bosnia in a year (hint, we we weren't...actually, we're still not), our military being put under U.N. authority for the first time in history, The U.S.S. Cole, or promises that Osama Bin Laden would be captured?
In case you want to say that Hillary is better than that, she was the partner at the Rose Law Firm, it was her colleagues that were appointed to key positions, she was the investor in White Water, and despite all of the affairs and the law suits, when she could've ditched the bum she was married to and set off on her own (and when she might have even been more admired for it), yet she has happily remained with our former president, and wants to put him back in the White House. I wonder what kind of "first man" he will make, and what he will choose to do with his time in that role?
I'm not trying to be nasty. But I do remember. It was a national disgrace. In fact, if my son had been born a girl, his name would've been named Monica. And two months after he was born, when that scandal broke, I thanked God that it never happened, because to this day, there is only one thing that comes to mind when simply the first name "Monica" is spoken.
Maybe I shouldn't judge Hillary by these things...however, her staying with him tells me a lot about her morality. I honestly believe that she will ressurrect their previous administration, and reestablish their friends back in their administrative roles. I really don't want to see any of that happen to our country again.
We may have differing positions about our current President, but I am at least glad that the issues are truly political, not about how crooked and untrustworthy the President is, because whether we should be in Iraq is an ideological question, and yes an ethical question, and maybe even one about the failure of government to do its job...but it isn't about whether our President can keep it in his pants, or about whether he will be in jail before all of this is through, and what is his price when it comes to political fundraising and lending out rooms of the White House, or sending members of his own party blushing in shame.
So tell me, does anybody remember what it was like when the Clintons were in office?
Anybody?

Hillary supporters: Listen folks, please don’t get discouraged. PLEASE. She is getting attacked from all sides because people deep down know she is our only hope for America and they’re trying to ruin it for everybody. Hillary is the ONLY candidate with these 4 attributes: honor, patriotism, loyalty, and kindness. I got $35 in the bank that says no other candidate has those attributes.

What I remember is this gnawing awareness that behind the scenes, all of the powers of the most powerful office in the land were bent on carrying out an agenda I basically disagreed with.
I also remember how bored Bill Clinton was his second term in office. Anything big that he could try he'd already tried, and he was stuck looking for a legacy. Maybe his ultimate legacy will be that both he and his marriage partner-of-convenience both occupied the oval office.
Kyrie eleison. But the press would love another jag of the Clintons in power. What a host of stories.
Ooooo... your spammer comment (above) is pretty cute! Awwww...
Kindness? Excuse me while I duck that flying lamp... D'oh!
I remember the silly grasping for a legacy, too. Pathetic.
As much as I agree with your comments about the shame the Clintons brought to the White House and our country, I'm kind of amazed about your comments that she should've left him. God intends marriage to be for life (even non-Christian marriages) and it doesn't seem right to fault a woman for staying with a schmuck. That's what forgiveness and commitment are about. Even among unbelievers, it is good to see an outward show of faithfulness to marriage.
Okay, first point...I didn't say she SHOULD'VE left him. I said she could've left him, but chose to remain.
If she'd chosen to leave, I believe that Matt 5:32 and Matt. 19:9 say that it would not be sinful for her to leave.
Choosing to leave in this situation is only the choice of the victim, because in the end, she (in this case) is the one who lives with the consequences either way, but God has left her free to walk away, because adultery does break the marriage. She can choose to stay, as she did.
I agree with you. Marriage is created by God to be for life. The only exception that He gives for divorce is sexual immorality.
Adultery is probably one of the cruelest things that an adulterer can do to a family. And it does happen to the entire family. With his act, he is wiping out all security that the spouse has, and betraying that bond which created the children that they have.
When someone does it chronically, as Bill Clinton has done, without regard to even being discreet, allowing his wife and daughter to have to endure these scandals in the public eye and even in the international forum, that is incredibly cruel.
Even among non-believers, our culture has allowed for the protection of spouses in the case of adultery, and has recognized that the marital bond has been broken and a party has been injured. So Biblically or non-Biblically, I believe she would've had every right to leave, should she have chosen, and would not have done any harm to the sanctity of marriage. He did that.
I do think that if she had left, she also would've had the support of the majority of the country, and so his behavior would've been duly censured. Instead, what happened was a debate about whether or not his morals effected his job until we were all so sick of it that it became tolerable.
Because of this, I think that if she had divorced him, it would've been less likely that a cross-dressing, pro-abortion adulterer would be the leading candidate on the Republican ticket. Things just go downhill unless a conscious effort is made to stop it.
But again, in the end, I don't know why she stayed, and I can't say that she is wrong. Of course, there is something to be said for staying - preserving the sanctity of marriage. When I said that if Chris had been a girl, he'd been named Monica - it was after Augustine's mother Monica, who stayed in a terrible marriage and faithfully prayed for her husband and son and eventually they were brought to faith.
But if she'd left, she'd also had sent a message to her daughter and all of America that this kind of man is not good, that power is not the only thing that is important (whether it is to her or not). I think it also would've upheld the sanctity of marriage as well by clearly pointing to what Clinton did was wrong, breaking his marriage vows and his marriage as well.
I guess if I really believed she stayed to honor the sanctity of marriage, I'd respect her more. I can't read her heart, but it appears to me that she stayed because their partnership was to her distinct political advantage.
But I could just be a dishonorable, unpatriotic, disloyal, unkind so and so. Probably.
I can't say my feelings disagree, but like you, I am aware that I can't read her mind.
Bruce, I agree with you completely about the probably motivation for Hillary not leaving. But like you said, we can't read minds....
I would take the subject of staying with Bill just a bit further...
What did she teach her daughter? That staying with someone for the sake of power is worth humiliating yourself. Those vows were broken the first time Bill jumped over the wall, and she could have left. Having been a close observer of an adulterous marriage, I can tell you that Modern Man can't understand why the victim would allow themselves to be treated that way. And she "told" Chelsea it was OK.
And one step further...she told her liberal, feminist fans that it was OK. That we can put up with what some bum does to us, if it preserves our position and standing in the world. Isn't that why those ladies "burned their bras" in the 60's? To "prove" we didn't need men? Seems her behavior, then, is more than a little hypocritical.
If I have one objection to Hillary, and, believe me, I have more than one, it is this subject. If she can't stay true to the values she espouses, why would those who do vote for her?
Nice blog! I though you might like reading mine, it focuses mainly on religion (namely christianity). Anywho, please check it out and feel free to comment.

Yes, I do remember. I remember the embarrassment of my teenage boys knowing exactly what happened in the Presiden't office. I remember feeling sick as more evidence of women, drug use, and other immoral behavior became public. I also remember the Reagan days... they were sweet. I think that is what made Clinton so hard to swallow, at least for my family. Hillary is just plain scary. What are people thinking?
I agree with you whole-heartedly, Rebel. The worst thing I think of happening to our country would be more Clintons in the White House. If she were elected I think I'd suggest to DH that we stay overseas a while. Oh, say, about another 4-8 years. LOL
I remember how all the Clinton's staff took the 'W's off the computer keyboards before they left the White House. If Hillary gets elected maybe someone will take all the 'H's. But that would be an eye for an eye and we're not suppose to live like that. But it would be tempting.
